Tia Gustaff Rayl is an independent consultant who does development and training in database and web technologies. Most recently she authored The JavaScript Bible and has published courseware for SQL, XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

It comes as no surprise to those who know her that she began her software career with unrelated degrees in English and Education at the University of Florida. As is usual for most newcomers to the field her introduction to computing was maintaining software. She went on to a long standing career in the software industry in full life cycle system, application and database development; project management; and training for PC and mainframe environments. In the mid-nineties she worked on early web-enabled database applications with Oracle as the backend engine. At that time she added web technologies to her repertoire, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript and XML.

She continues to take on development projects to maintain her code slinging skills. Her most recent project was the development of backend databases to support a client choice of Oracle XE, MySQL, Derby, or PostgreSQL databases for a pharmaceutical application targeted for third-world pharmacies that have limited computer resources. Shortly she will add MicroSoft SQL Server support to the application.

She credits her success in writing courseware to her husband, Edward Rayl, Will Provost of Capstone, and Miss Bigelow, her 11th and 12th grade English teacher, who instilled within her a great respect and love for the written word.

If she had any spare time (and money) she would go on an around the world cruise with her husband and two dogs.
