Connector/J JDBC Driver for MySQL, Version 3.0

If the course you are setting up requires Connector/J 3.0, follow these instructions to set it up on the student and instructor machines. If you have questions, please contact your courseware vendor.

Please note that the latest Connector/J version — 3.1.x as of this writing — is not compatible with the courseware as written. Version 3.1 introduces a new dependency on AspectJ, and so the classpaths described in our courses for Connector/J versions 3.0 and earlier will not work.

The installer for Connector/J 3.0 is located at

Choose either of the two archive formats offered and follow links to a download mirror. Unpack the downloaded archive into any directory on the local hard drive. We suggest renaming the root directory of the install from the default mysql-connector-java-3.0.x to something simpler, such as ConnectorJ. This saves students some time and averts a lot of in-class typing mistakes. In any event, be sure that the instructor is aware of the installed location.
