Tool Setup Instructions

IBM Rational Application Developer, Version 7

If the course you are setting up requires RAD 7, follow these instructions to set it up on the student and instructor machines. If you have questions, please contact your courseware vendor.

RAD is of course a commercial tool, and it is assumed that students and/or training companies using Capstone courseware for RAD and WebSphere either have appropriate licenses to use these tools or are legally using evaluation software in the classroom.

Note that our courseware requires only WebSphere AS 6.1 for our lab exercises to build and deploy successfully. RAD is optional and we do make an overlay of workspace and projects available for it; but WebSphere proper is all that's absolutely necessary in the classroom.

Finally, please be aware that our lab exercises include scripts for deployment and other administrative tasks, and these assume an administrative login of admin/ccstudent. If you are setting up a fresh RAD or WAS installation for the course, please override the defaults to make this the admin login. If you have an existing setup and don't want to change the admin login, there is a simple way to adjust the lab files to work with any username and password: this is described in the instructor's guide for the course, and the instructor can walk students through this quick fix at the beginning of the class.
