Web Services Feature Pack for WebSphere, Version 6.1

If the course you are setting up requires Web Services Feature Pack 6.1, follow these instructions to set it up on the student and instructor machines. If you have questions, please contact your courseware vendor.

The Web Services Feature Pack for WebSphere 6.1 is an add-on component that can be installed over WebSphere AS 6.1 or a complete RAD7 installation. It adds JAX-WS and JAXB tooling and server support to WebSphere. Find it here:

http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/download/preconfig.jsp?id=2007-09-04+08%3A20%3A07.416823R&S_TACT=104CBW71&S_CMP=

You must be a registered IBM user to get the feature pack.

Note that you only need one of the four downloads shown for the feature pack - the file to download is 6.1.0-WS-WAS-WSFEP-WinX32.zip.

Unzip the downloaded archive anywhere, and then run WEBSV/install.exe.

Follow the installer instructions, taking all default choices. The installer may advise you that it needs to update the WebSphere server to version 6.1.0.9, and this is indeed necessary to support JAX-WS.

The installer will also show a few warnings as it proceeds, to the effect that certain components couldn't be uninstalled or failed when tested. These are generally benign and the installer continues without requiring confirmation.

When the installer finishes, it shows a "SUCCESS" screen and prompts you to run the profile manager to create a new profile. You do not need to do this. Un-check the box that would cause the installer to launch the profile manager, and then click Finish.

Test the environment by opening a command console in WAS_HOME/bin, and entering the following command; you should get the response shown:

wsimport -version
